Chines Drama Guess Who I Am
I watched Guess Who I Am (猜猜我是谁) on a whim after discovering that it is a 24 episodes drama. Moreover, the leads are experienced actors who have acted in a few popular dramas in the past. My expectations were this is going to be a fun and romantic watch given the theme. It could have been explosive and delightful with deception in the main plot. I was ready to sit back and indulge myself but unfortunately, it falls a little short to me in a few ways. My Guess Who I Am review below will have all its pros and cons.
My rating: 7/10

Plot Summary
Legend has it that a mysterious organization operates within wealthy circles, specializing in punishing unscrupulous playboys. As long as the payment is sufficient, no matter how difficult the target, they are invariably defeated by this organization. In reality, this legendary organization is nothing more than an informal group. Its flawless record relies entirely on the supernatural ability of its core member, Song Yao (played by Zhang Yuxi) – the ability to attract wealthy liars. Any wealthy man who is full of lies will fall hopelessly in love with Song Yao and become putty in her hands after just three seconds of eye contact. However, even the most potent ability can meet its Waterloo. Song Yao’s magical, electric eyes failed to work when she faced the “Crown Prince of Chengtian Group,” “Ji Chengchuan” (played by Wang Zigi ). After several failed attempts, Song Yao finally understood the reason: he was no crown prince, but an impostor. Qin Hao impersonated Ji Chengchuan to infiltrate the Chengtian Group and investigate the truth behind a fire fifteen years ago. To avoid complications, Qin Hao initially wanted nothing to do with this “gold-digger” Song Yao. Yet, through a series of mishaps, he was forced into a fake marriage with her. When Qin Hao assumed the position of General Manager and suddenly became a “real tycoon,” he looked into Song Yao’s eyes and, as if bewitched, fell in love with her. A scam-punishing woman meets a con-man. When two scheming drama kings cross paths, a silent war is destined to unfold. Who will ultimately outwit the other remains to be seen.

Series Evaluation
“Guess Who I Am” creatively adopts a “light comedy + suspense” genre approach, catering to young audiences’ curiosity while meeting their demand for lighthearted viewing. It embellishes the urban love story with amusing and humorous elements, supplemented by suspenseful plot twists, offering viewers a thrilling yet lighthearted viewing experience. In the series, Song Yao, the “Daji with Electric Eyes,” possesses a captivating skill, seemingly charming effortlessly yet inherently adorable. Meanwhile, the mystery surrounding Qin Hao, the “Substitute CEO,” and the identity of “Ji Chengchuan” persists throughout, compelling viewers to watch the dramatic clash with a puzzle-solving mindset. Furthermore, the contrasting characterizations of the male and female leads, along with the humorous confrontations and CP mix-ups among their respective allies, generate numerous comedic and sweet moments. This keeps the audience oscillating between sincerity and deception alongside the protagonists’ shifting psychological states, maximizing viewing satisfaction.
The series cleverly broadens the contemporary romance genre by creating an innovative “composite contemporary romance” format. In the show, the leads progress from being “agents with their own agendas” to “contract spouses” with budding affection, frequently engaging in various playful battles of love. Their “Mr. & Mrs. Smith”-style romantic rivalry has captivated many netizens. Their love, operating in a “dual-strong” mode, boasts not only well-matched compatibility but also sweet and hilarious daily interactions, precisely hitting the audience’s expectations for romantic relationships. Notably, the series portrays the growth arcs of different characters in a phased and diverse manner. Song Yao and Ji Chengchuan heal each other and move forward together, with the gradually built trust becoming the most solid foundation of their relationship. As they explore the essence of love layer by layer, their passionate and pure emotional expression not only satisfies the viewing needs of young audiences but also opens up more possibilities for content creation (China.com Entertainment review).
